Once an appropriate dog has been selected the real work begins. Training a service dog is a major commitment that requires the team to work together. This builds trust between the dog and handler as they learn and prefect their skills together. The team’s confidence grows and so does the bond. Below is an overview of the requirements

  • Successful completion of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test
  • Minimum of 300 training hours usually in 6 months
  • Keeping a Training Log
  • At least 3 tasks trained to help handler with their disability that handler cannot do
  • Successful completion of Public Access Test
